The Midwife Center Of St. Michael Hospital
Traditionally, midwives cared for women during pregnancy, birth and early motherhood. Today, Certified Nurse Midwives (CNM) are registered nurses with a Masters Degree who have completed advanced studies in midwifery and women's health care. In addition to providing the traditional maternity services, they also provide a wide range of gynecology services for women of all ages - adolescence through post-menopause.
At the Midwife Center of St. Michael Hospital, our experienced midwives, Nicole Wells, MSN, CNM; Ali Phipps, MSN, CNM; and M.A. "Martty" Berner, MSN, CNM, share a deep commitment to providing individualized, quality patient care. They encourage patients to participate in health care decision-making, by providing them with the personal attention necessary to address individual concerns. Our midwives work in collaboration with the physicians of Glen Point OB/GYN - Drs. Michael Gilman, William Goodman and John Waeltz - specialists, who are readily available for consultation, or to assist with medically complex situations.
Additional services through the Midwife Center include: pre-conceptual counseling, breastfeeding support, hormone replacement therapy, osteoporosis screening, lifestyle assessments, and access to a wide variety of hospital-based services including complementary therapies, massage therapy, nutritional counseling and educational services.
