Last year, Colleen Ferguson made an important career decision. After two years of staff nursing on a medical/ surgical unit, she began working in the operating and recovery room at St. Michael Hospital. Today, she couldn't be happier. "Operating room nursing brings you to the heart of what caregiving is all about," she says. "I really enjoy the opportunity to focus on one patient at a time...There is a real sense of satisfaction that comes from helping a patient who is very vulnerable and needs care and comfort."

Colleen enjoys the team approach of the operating room, working closely with anesthesiologists, surgeons, assistants and surgical techs. "It is empowering to play such an important role in the process," she says.
