Our modern Birthing Center offers a variety of childbirth preparation and sibling classes. In addition, we have all private rooms in home-like settings, delivery suites for cesarean births and a nursery for newborns needing specialized care. Other programs for women and families include: mammography, massage therapy and a variety of complementary medicine programs.

Feeling Safe and Comfortable

At St. Michael, we believe that excellent care and the latest medical technology can be delivered in comfort and privacy. Your labor, delivery, and recovery can all take place in one spacious, beautifully decorated room. You'll be at ease in a private, home-like setting that is completely equipped for your birthing experience. For those requiring a cesarean birth or extra attention, a special delivery room is available in the birthing center. Our postpartum rooms are also private, so you and your family can enjoy those first special moments together.

It's comforting to know that should your baby require extra care, St. Michael Hospital is fully equipped and our staff is specially trained to handle such situations. Neonatologists, physicians specializing in infants with problems, are on-call 24 hours a day. Our nurses have extensive experience in monitoring and assessing all newborns. As part of the Covenant Healthcare System, we benefit from the vast resources and support of its member hospitals, including St. Joseph's, the number one referral center in southeastern Wisconsin for mothers and babies with problems.

A Comprehensive Education

St. Michael Hospital believes that both parents and infants benefit from thorough parent education. That's why we take a comprehensive approach to preparing you for parenthood. We encourage and prepare your partner to be an active participant throughout the entire event. And we offer a wide range of classes from pre-pregnancy planning to classes dealing with early pregnancy, nutrition, sibling preparation, breastfeeding and much more. During your stay, a VCR and educational tapes are available, as well as individual instruction after birth.

Extra Attention and Support

It's often the little things that contribute to making an experience truly memorial and exceptional. We're sensitive to the special needs of families, and it's reflected in the extra attention you'll receive from our nurses and doctors. Your birthing experience is recognized as a special event for your family.

Our support does not end when your family leaves the hospital. We have a 24-hour Maternity Careline available to you for questions about you and your baby's care after you get home.
