Established in 1941, St. Michael Hospital is a regional medical and teaching acute care hospital offering a full range of inpatient and outpatient services. With more than 1,500 employees and a medical staff of nearly 600, the hospital is a strong a force in the community and a leader in providing health services. St. Michael is licensed for 225 beds and has an average of 8,000 inpatient admissions each year. Areas of specialty include behavioral health, alcohol and drug treatment; cancer care; cardiac care; dialysis services; emergency services; gastroenterology; orthopedics; physical medicine and rehabilitation; and women and infant services, including a modern birthing center.

Of special note, St. Michael is nationally recognized services for prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of foot and ankle problems, scoliosis, sports injuries, as well as other joint disorders. The hospital also has the capability to perform sophisticated back surgery.

The Milwaukee Neuroscience Institute at St. Michael Hospital combines personalized care and sophisticated technology to diagnose, treat and rehabilitate patients with neurological and spinal problems. In addition, the hospital operates a Spine Center for the treatment of back and neck pain, located at the St. Michael Health Center in Brown Deer. The Family Care Center, a freestanding clinic adjacent to the hospital, provides primary care for thousands of patients and families each year. The Center is staffed by physicians from the St. Michael Hospital Family Practice Residency Program.
